MEERUT: A 6-year-old girl, playing outside her house in Bulandshahr, was allegedly lured away and raped by her 45-year-old uncle, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening. The Class 2 student's mother, who lodged the police complaint, said the accused, a daily wager, lives in their locality. "My daughter came home crying, and blood was oozing out from her private parts. She narrated the incident to me and fainted. We rushed her to the hospital, from where she was referred to a higher medical centre in Meerut," her mother told police.
Dr Diwakar Chaudhary, emergency medical officer (EMO) at Meerut medical centre, said the child was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday night. "She underwent surgery and is now stable. She is kept under medical attention and may get discharged in a day or two," Chaudhary told TOI.
SHO Md Aslam said the accused had been convicted for murder earlier and was out on bail. "In 2013, the accused and two others killed a man from their village over a land dispute. They were convicted of murder by a lower court and sentenced to life imprisonment but later came out on bail," the SHO said.
Vikas Pratap Chauhan, CO, said that based on the complaint, an FIR under BNS Section 65(2) (rape), 351(2), and relevant sections of the Pocso Act has been registered. "The accused has been arrested by the police. He was shot in the leg during retaliatory firing from police. The victim is hospitalised, and further investigation is underway," Chauhan said.
The incident has triggered outrage among locals. "Had he not been given bail, my daughter could be safe. How will she live a normal life now? Whom should we blame for the sin?" her mother said, demanding the death penalty for the accused.
